Bill Swaney

Bill Swaney is a wildlife biologist by training and education, but has spent the past 14 years in the education field. An enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) of the Flathead Reservation in Montana, Bill earned bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Wildlife Biology at the University of Montana, and worked in the Natural Resources Department of the CSKT in the wildlife program as a biologist. He then became manager of the Division of Environmental Protection for 6 ½ years before moving to Salish Kootenai College, where he spent 13 years as an instructor and department head. He most recently was hired as the head of the CSKT Education Department.

Bill helped the Institute arrange our field trip to the Flathead Reservation, including arranging our meeting with the tribal chair, and he spoke about the Tribes' efforts to restore fish indigenous to the Flathead Lake.
